Rock Leung (Samsung Research)

Abstract:

Rock Leung from Samsung Research will be joining via video conference from Samsung’s office in Vancouver. The theme of this colloquium focuses on reflecting on practice in industry. We will explore Rock’s trajectory through graduate school and then discuss and reflect on his roles in industry. Obtaining PhD can set one up for doing different kinds of work in industry outside of academia. In this colloquium, we will take a deep dive into what these ‘kinds of work’ are like.

 

Biography:

Rock Leung is a UX Research Lead at Samsung R&D Canada. He has conducted research for both Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. He obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction research. His graduate research has been published in prominent scientific journals. Always looking for ways to support the local UX community, he helped found the Radical Research Summit, an annual event for UX research practitioners and supporters, and was the organizing committee chair for the 2018 and 2019 summits.
