Dr. Taco Niet represented ΔE+ at the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)/Energy Modelling Hub (EMH) Workshop on Modelling for Net Zero held Sept 20 and 21, 2023 in Ottawa.  Convened by ECCC and EMH, the workshop brought together modelers from across Canada to discuss ECCC net zero modeling tools, where these tools can be enhanced, and what gaps there are in Net Zero modeling in Canada.  The workshop was a mix of presentations from ECCC and external experts to both evaluate current modeling activities at ECCC and to highlight interesting methods and approaches from across Canada, the US and Europe.  The presentations from ECCC focussed on individual models and the policy insights these models enable.  Discussions included how the models could be enhanced/improved to better address net zero challenges.  Expert presentations provided methods and best practices for modelling including multi-model comparisons, data and model management tools and the global context for modeling for net zero.  Dr. Niet was asked to present on open source modeling best practices and approaches based on his work with the OSeMOSYS and CLEWs modeling communities.
