Population aging is one of the most significant demographic phenomena of the 21st century and will shape healthcare, finance, social services, housing, and transportation, as well as the experiences of aging at the individual, family, and community level.

Gerontology is the multidisciplinary study of physical, social, and psychological aspects of aging and older adults.
