Wellness Day November 2021

SFU’s Vancouver campus, Surrey campus and Health and Counselling Services are thrilled to partner again on Wellness Day! This free event is open to all SFU students, staff and faculty and aims to positively influence the health and wellbeing of the SFU community. Join us on Zoom for a lunchtime program including a short meditation and mental health dialogue with our panel of guest speakers. We hope you can take this time for self-care, to unwind with the meditation and learn about burnout prevention and how to address “SAD” (Seasonal Affective Disorder) at the panel discussion. As usual, there will be lots of prizes!

How Do You Practice Wellness?
Participate in Our Active Challenge from October 15 - November 12
 (Faculty & Staff only)
Stay active with us! Form a team with your colleagues and join in the Stay Active Challenge, which runs from October 15 to November 12, 2021 in the lead up to Wellness Day on November 16. This challenge is open to all SFU staff and faculty. Learn more about the challenge and register by October 15! There are also prizes available: each person who participates in the challenge will be entered into a draw for one of three GooglePlay book credits! The draw will happen on November 16 during Wellness Day, so we hope you'll join us!

How Can We Help Enhance Your Wellness?
Participate in Our Campus Care: 2021/2022 Wellness Programming Feedback Survey
(Vancouver & Surrey campuses Faculty & Staff only)
Building upon the successful collaboration on Wellness Day in March 2021, the Vancouver and Surrey campuses are endeavouring to collaborate more under the umbrella of “Campus Care”. We want to get feedback from faculty and staff on what we currently offer and to solicit suggestions for future programs focusing on various aspects of wellbeing.

The pandemic has taken a toll on many people's mental health. With the rain and shorter days ahead this winter, we have invited a group of experts to discuss mental health challenges for various demographic groups and provide tips on: preventing and managing anxiety, stress, and burnout; the 7 Sacred Teachings (love, trust, humility, honesty, respect, truth, and wisdom); the benefits of Moments of Stillness; and how to promote life satisfaction.

The panel includes three speakers, and there will be a moderated Q&A after their respective presentations.

Dr. Scott Lear is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University and the inaugural Pfizer/Heart and Stroke Foundation Chair in Cardiovascular Prevention Research at St. Paul's Hospital.
