Research interests

Dr. Lear’s research focuses on how health behaviours relate to the prevention of heart and other diseases, as well as their role in treating disease. This includes investigations into the role of physical activity in disease prevention and why some people are active and others are not. With this information, Dr. Lear’s research informs the development and evaluation of policies, programs and interventions, such as how the built environment influences health and how technology can be used to support health behaviours and patients with disease.

Dr. Lear has experience with heart disease and mental illness and draws on these lived experiences for his research. In addition, Dr. Lear works with community groups and is active in knowledge mobilization. He is active on social media (@drscottlear), writes a bi-weekly blog (Become Your Healthiest You) and co-hosts the How to Health podcast to share his expertise and patient experience regarding healthy living.
