From muscle fibres to movement strategies: How intrinsic muscle properties shape whole-body coordination
Humans tend to self-optimize the coordination used in complex multi-joint movements, yet there is large variability in how different individuals choose to solve the same task. This suggests that the coordination patterns we have at our disposal may be constrained by the individual makeup of our neuromuscular and skeletal systems. In this seminar, Dr. Daehlin will present his research journey investigating how intrinsic muscle properties influence “optimal” movement coordination during multi-joint lower extremity tasks, such as walking, running, jumping, and landing. Additionally, selected practical applications to sports performance and injury prevention will be explored.
