Project Management Essentials

Gain an essential understanding of project management principles, methodologies and practices across the project life cycle. In this foundational course, you will become familiar with core project terminology, responsibilities, and delivery approaches including Waterfall, Agile and Hybrid. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in project initiation and planning, by developing two key planning documents: a project charter and a scope statement.

The final assignment is due one week after the course ends.

Required textbook:

A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 8th edition. Available as of January 2026 for purchase from online or local bookstores, or through the PMI website. We will expect you to have read the textbook, as this course will reference relevant chapters.
