Kevin Cherney

Kevin Cherney is an award-winning communications professional known for crafting engaging, inclusive and evidence-based strategies that connect with diverse audiences.

For the past six years, Kevin has been a key member of SFU’s central communications and marketing team, where he has successfully led complex internal communication projects. His work has supported university leaders and employees through significant initiatives, including institutional strategic planning; Indigenous reconciliation; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), as well as labour relations and collective bargaining.

In 2023, Kevin and his communications and marketing colleagues earned three IABC Gold Quill awards, including the prestigious “Best of the Best” Business Issue Award for their work on the SFU Gondola Advocacy Project.

Kevin began his SFU career with SFU Public Square, leading communications and promotions for hundreds of public dialogues. He holds a bachelor of arts (honours) from Simon Fraser University.
