David Porter

David Porter has served as an instructor for the Insurance Institute of Canada for more than 20 years, teaching the Insurance Against Liability course.  He has been instructing in the BCIT General Insurance and Risk Management program for three years now.  His own education includes obtaining his law degree from UBC in 2010. David attained his Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation through SFU while earning his Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation.

David was an independent adjuster for 25 years specializing in liability and large property losses.  He currently owns and operates businesses in construction, mining and manufacturing.  He has served as the chair of the Insurance Council of BC, the president of the Insurance Institute of BC, the president of the Canadian Independent Adjusters’ Association, and the chair of the North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission.

David plays and coaches soccer, loves hiking and enjoys gardening.
