Spring 2024 CES Reports

In Spring 2024, SFU academic units will receive three different types of CES data reports, each designed to provide tailored insight into understanding student learning experiences within their respective unit. Our purpose is to provide CES reports that support academic units with the ongoing development of their teaching and programs. CES reports can be used for teaching assessment1,2, professional development and program assessments.

Following the positive feedback from the Fall 2023 TSSU strike impact reports, we are pleased to continue to provide the CE Survey Academic Unit Report. This report compares the unit's Spring 2024 mean scores with the university-wide mean scores and the unit’s previous mean scores from Spring 2023. Please note that this is a supplemental report for Spring 2024; its continuation will be determined based on the evolving needs and feedback from units.

While we currently do not offer reports tailored to individual faculties and schools, we are actively exploring this possibility for future offerings. In the meantime, CES reports of every academic unit within the faculty and school will be available.

We encourage instructors, department chairs, and administrators who work closely with CES reports to share their feedback or ideas. Additionally, we offer one-time, ad-hoc reports to address specific inquiries regarding your teaching community. Your input is valuable as we strive to remain flexible and responsive to the needs of each academic unit. Please feel free to contact us at any time.

Reports for Instructors

Instructors get access to the following reports:

Instructor Report

This report includes responses to all Common Core, Discipline, and personalized Instructor questions. There are two versions of this report:

  1. Instructor Report with student comments
  2. Instructor Report without student comment

Course Report

This report only includes responses to Common Core and Discipline Questions and excludes responses to the personalized Instructor questions. It is designed for departmental use and is accessed by department administrators (e.g. Chairs, Directors, Deans, etc.) and administrative staff requiring access to fulfill their responsibilities. Though this report is very similar to the Instructor Report, access is provided to instructors so they can have the same view as department administrators and staff who have access.  There are two versions of this report:

  1. Course Report with student comments

  2. Course Report without student comments

A low response version of these reports will be generated for course surveys with less than 5 respondents.

1 Course Experience Survey data can be used as an indirect measure of teaching performance for tenure and promotion decisions, but needs to be applied within the scope of the SFU Faculty Association (SFUFA) Collective Agreement (Articles 28.5 to 28.15; 2022-2025).

2 Course Experience Survey data can be used within the scope of the Teaching and Support Staff Union (TSSU) Collective Agreement (Article XVIII C, D, E, J).

3 Course Reports are provided with and without student comments in line with the SFUFA Collective Agreement.
