Record of Employment Information for Employees
A record of employment (ROE) provides information to Service Canada on your employment at SFU. The ROE contains your employment history and insurable earnings. Service Canada uses this information to determine your eligibility for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, the benefit rate, and the duration benefits will be paid. Service Canada requires a ROE if you plan to apply for Employment Insurance benefits.
Full-time Continuing SFU employees, will have a ROE issued when an employee:
- quits their job;
- is laid off or terminated;
- is on a Leave of Absence (e.g. Maternity, Parental or Sick leave); or
- has had within the last 52 weeks or since the last ROE, seven consecutive calendar days without work and insurable earnings from the employer.
For members of the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU)
- At the end of each semester, Payroll will issue a ROE for all TSSU members employed during the semester.
For all other temporary appointments, if your employment is terminated and you plan to make a claim for Employment Insurance, please email your request to Payroll@sfu.ca.
Payroll issues ROEs electronically to Service Canada, no paper record is produced. You can find a copy of your ROE on your My Service Canada Account https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/my-account.html
