Overview
The SFU–Canterbury Master of Speech and Language Pathology Pathway (SFU–UC MSLP) is a partnership between Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, Canada and the University of Canterbury (UC) in Christchurch, New Zealand.
SFU recognized a gap between the increased demand for speech and language pathologists and the limited pathway options for students in British Columbia. The SFU–UC MSLP pathway creates direct entry for SFU undergraduates to earn professional qualification and practice as a speech language pathologist/therapist upon graduation.
The SFU–UC MSLP is a two-year program. You will study the areas of clinical linguistics, evidence-based practice, introductory neuroscience, speech and language development and disorders across the lifespan, typical and atypical hearing, swallowing, fluency and voice, and professional practice. This hands-on program also includes experiential clinical practice and internship after graduation.
Admission Requirements
This opportunity is for current SFU students and newly admitted students who will meet the following requirements upon completion of 90 units:
- CGPA of at least 3.0
- Enrolled in the Certificate in the Linguistics of Speech Science (CLSS) program
- Must have completed a lower-division statistics course
Application Procedures
Students who fulfil the above criteria will be invited to apply (after completing 90 units) at the discretion of the UC MSLP program. Through this partnership, a limited number of seats are guaranteed for eligible SFU undergraduate students. Students who use this pathway are also eligible to receive a tuition fee reduction of 10% at UC.
