Featured Student: Michael Plunkett — USRA Research Experience
Mathematical physics major, computing science minor Michael Plunkett completed a USRA term working with mathematics professor Paul Tupper.
“Paul's guidance and support has been extremely valuable, and it has made me feel more confident about my ability as a mathematician!”
“The workflow in research is very different than that of being a student or your typical 9-5 job; it is much more independent and individualized, and I really appreciated the flexibility it gave me to work at my own pace while also having lots of opportunities to ask for help and direction from my supervisor and my peers. Imposter syndrome is very common among science students, especially when you are faced with the very open-ended problems you often encounter in research, but learning to trust yourself and knowing that you're not alone in this struggle is a huge part of maturing as a scientist and a person!”
