We anticipate over 60 organizations from across the public, private and non-profit sectors will be participating at the Jobs & Volunteer Expo. No matter what your career interest might be, there will be something for you.

TIPS: Always look beyond the industries and sectors that are most commonly aligned with your major because many exhibitors offer opportunities in multiple areas.

IMPORTANT: SFU does not endorse any organizations; we encourage you to do your research and connect with the exhibitors of your choice.

Student Resources

BEFORE THE FAIR: How To Prepare

Get Ready!

The West Coast Virtual Fair Jobs & Volunteer Expo is open to all students and alumni!

  • First and second year students:
    • Explore open volunteer roles and summer jobs.
    • Use the resource What Can I Do with a Degree In... to explore potential career paths for your major. Talk to employers to learn about, and prepare for, future co-op and career opportunities.
  • Students in third or fourth+ years, graduate students, alumni and students actively seeking a co-op or career role:
    • These are industry professionals and recruiters from companies who are seeking talented individuals like you!
    • Consult the Exhibitors List to find out what the organizations are looking for. How can you stand out?

Research the Exhibitors

Get to know the organizations ahead of time. See the list of Exhibitors and their open positions on the Fair Platform. Research their websites and review their LinkedIn and other social media accounts for news and updates. Prepare questions and a short introduction.

Know Your Strengths

  • Reflect on past roles, experiences and coursework to identify strengths and skills. Be prepared to articulate them when asked
  • Prepare a short introduction to yourself - include your top skills, education, interests. Position yourself as a good addition to their team – what do you bring?

Access Resources

  • Participate in the online Preparation Workshops  (see "preparation workshops" above)
  • See SFU Career and Volunteer Services Resources Page and "additional resources" below to help you prepare
  • Book an appointment with a Career Educator at Career & Volunteer Services through myExperience *Note: book early to ensure an appointment before the Jobs & Volunteer Expo

BEFORE: Evaluate The Organizations

Spend some time researching organizations before the Career Fair. This will give you a sense of what is important to them, but will also help you determine if they are a good fit for you!

What makes a good fit?

Consider these factors:

  • Work Culture
  • Vision and Values
  • Mission Statement
  • Organization
  • Business Model
  • Clarity and Public Image on the organization

We do our best to ensure only registered organizations with existing appropriate licenses are in attendance.

DURING The Fair: Be Ready

First Impressions Matter

  • Ensure your video background and personal appearance are presentable
  • As you enter the Exhibitor's room, greet the representatives with a smile. Introduce yourself with confidence
  • Be curious, professional and genuine!
  • Ask your prepared questions and take notes

Make It Last

  • Extend the connection beyond the Fair by asking to connect on LinkedIn
  • Ask about their application process. Employers may have an online application process or may ask you to upload your resume on the spot.
