The Canadian Institute of Planners inducts Andy Yan into its College of Fellows

June 04, 2024

Congratulations to Andy Yan who has received the highest honour for a planning professional—an induction into the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) esteemed College of Fellows.

The CIP made the announcement last week, saying Yan and fellow inductees had "demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication to the planning profession, with years of experience at the local, provincial, national, and international levels." Read the full announcement here.

Yan, reflecting upon his time as an urban planner, educator, and this recent honour, says:

Communities across Canada are facing tremendous challenges from climate change to housing unaffordability to a cost of living crisis in a framework of reconciliation and social inclusion.  The field of planning has a unique role and responsibility in examining, co-creating, and implementing the solutions to these problems of our time. With the inspiration and help from many teachers, mentors, friends, and colleagues, it is a tremendous honour to be inducted into the Canadian Institute of Planners’ College of Fellows. At Urban Studies, it has been a great privilege to help students start and continue their journeys in helping and building communities.
