No Tricks, All Treats at the Halloween Social
In partnership with the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) Women’s Centre and SFU Health and Counselling Services, SFU’s Vancouver campus brought students, staff, and faculty together for some seasonal fun! On Tuesday, October 31 from 12:30-2:00pm, a variety of spook-tacular activities took place in the Concourse and Teck Gallery at Harbour Centre.
SFU’s Vancouver campus runs a social event in the Fall and Summer semesters with the simple goal of providing a fun opportunity for the SFU community to come together. We want students, staff, and faculty to step out of the classroom or office and connect with fellow students and colleagues over something that isn’t related to school or work in any way. We want these events to be low barrier and easy to attend: No registration, short time commitment, and offered over the lunch hour. All you have to do is show up and have a good time!
We decided to make this year’s Fall Social a Halloween-themed event and were thrilled to see so many people dressed up in costumes! A few of our favourites were the twins from the movie, The Shining, the title character from the Dr. Seuss book, The Lorax, and Albert Einstein. There were also lots of great witches and devils, and spooky masks and headwear.
There were a variety of activities to choose from including mini pumpkin carving or painting, Giant Jenga and Checkers, and Dog Therapy. Pumpkin painting and Dog Therapy were the standout activities, and it was so great to see so many students and staff interacting with one another while painting or visiting with our furry friends.
A Halloween event would not be complete without treats, and the selections on offer were Halloween-themed glazed donuts, mini pumpkin spice cupcakes, and Halloween candy (of course!).
