SFU Pipe Band

About the Pipe Band

The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band was formed in 1966 during the university's inaugural year. Over the years, it has become a respected institution in the community and has brought honour and recognition to Simon Fraser University with its capture of national and international prizes.

Led by Pipe Major Alan Bevan, with Pipe Sergeant Jack Lee and Lead Drummer J. Reid Maxwell and wearing the Ancient Clan Fraser tartan, the band consists of a talented core of over 50 players. The band has captured the ultimate prize on the globe, the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championship an astonishing six times.

The band has produced several recordings and concert/documentary videos and appeared on four BBC Radio Scotland broadcasts. They have performed many concerts, most notably at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and at Carnegie Hall, New York City.

The Associate Director of Convocation and Events serves as Simon Fraser University's liaison to the SFU Pipe Band.
