History and General Information
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band was formed in 1966 during the university's inaugural year. Over the years, it has become a respected institution in the community and has brought honour and recognition to Simon Fraser University with its capture of national and international prizes.
Led by Pipe Sergeant Jack Lee, Major Terry Lee, and Lead Drummer J. Reid Maxwell and wearing the Ancient Clan Fraser tartan, the band consists of a talented core of over 40 players. The band has captured the ultimate prize on the globe, the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championship an astonishing six times.
The band has produced many recordings, three concert/documentary videos, and appeared on four BBC Radio Scotland broadcasts and has performed many concerts, most notably at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and at Carnegie Hall, New York City.
Their new album, Affirmation, recorded live in August 2009 in Glasgow just 3 days before the Worlds, is available for purchase via the SFU Pipe Band's new online store in both CD and MP3 formats. For a limited time autographed CDs are also available.
