The Department of Linguistics is a collaborative and engaging environment. We value the individual efforts and collective strength of our people. Undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, sessional instructors, faculty, and staff all work together toward common goals. We offer an education in linguistics that is world-class.

Our undergradate students have continued on into the fields of enterprise business, medical services, corporate positions, non-profit organizations, and local, provincial, and federal government.

Our graduate students have pursued further studies at institutions across the globe, including Yale University, Northwestern University, University of Edinburgh, Massachussets Institute of Technology, University of Amsterdam, and University of Toronto.

Students that have graduated with a PhD from SFU Linguistics have attained lecturer and faculty positions at California State University, University of Salzburg, University of Cologne, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and others.

We pride ourselves on fostering a cooperative and supportive spirit of collegiality.
