3-Minute Thesis: Noortje to Compete at the University Level

Congratulations to PhD student Noortje de Weers, who achieved second-place and people's choice victory in the FASS heat of this year's Three Minute Thesis Contest. She will be competing at the university level on March 19th at 4:30 p.m in ASB 10900 at the Burnaby Campus.  

Linguistics graduate students have reached this level before. Here are some past accomplishments.

  • 2014, Irina Presnyakova was a finalist for her topic, "Vancouver English".
  • 2015, Emma Mileva was a finalist for "Getting to Know Your Patient - Talk in Alternative Medicine Sessions as a Blend of Mainstream Medicine and Psychotherapy".
  • 2016, Alex Katz was a finalist for "Politeness Theory and a New Classification of English Speech Acts."
