Transportation and Parking

We encourage you and your guests to take public transportation to Convocation ceremonies. Translink provides excellent service to the University and drops you off very close to the ceremony site. Please see the translink website for transit schedules to the Burnaby campus.

Road construction notice

Please allow for extra time to get to SFU’s Burnaby campus during Convocation week. FortisBC is upgrading gas lines at the intersection of Gaglardi Way and Broadway. The road will be open, but only a single lane in either direction. Visit for more information.

In addition, there may be delays on University Drive East and we expect a higher than normal number of vehicles coming up the mountain for Convocation. If you’re travelling by bus, please check with TransLink for the most up-to-date information.

Elderly and disabled guests

Elderly and disabled guests may park in the parkade under Convocation Mall (there is an elevator in the Maggie Benston Centre). If you need a special parking space for anyone with a mobility impairment, identify yourself to SFU security at our Information Centre, noted on our convocation parking map.

Students with mobility impairments

If you are a student with a mobility impairment and use a wheelchair, scooter or crutches, we can make special arrangements for you, with a few days' notice. Contact the Centre for Accessible Learning (778.782.3112) in advance.

i Parking will be extremely limited

  • We advise you to arrive early, car pool or take public transit.  Give yourself lots of time to find parking.
  • If you follow the directions on the Convocation signage, traffic control staff will direct you to the complimentary Convocation parking areas on campus.
