The chancellor, president & vice-chancellor, and the senate of Simon Fraser University request the honour of your presence at Convocation June 2024.

Academic procession

Faculty members who wish to be a part of the academic procession are asked to register. Supervisors who would like to hood their graduating doctoral student(s) can register with the link below and note their interest.

Even if you own your regalia, it is necessary that you register online to ensure you have a seat on the platform. Information about the academic procession can be found in the "Resources" section in the right column at the top of this page.

Reserved SFU regalia or black gowns can be picked up prior to the ceremony at Strand Hall 3101. Please return the regalia immediately following the ceremony.

Faculty members wishing to purchase regalia

For faculty members who wish to wear the regalia of the university from which they were granted their highest degree, please note the following companies from which academic regalia can be purchased.

Arrival time

9:00 a.m. | 1:45 p.m. Arrive for robing
9:15 a.m. | 2:00 p.m. Assembly commences
9:35 a.m. | 2:20 p.m. Procession departs
9:45 a.m. | 2:30 p.m. Ceremony begins

Personal belongings

Valuables, coats, etc. may be left in the regalia room ad picked up no later than one hour after the ceremony.

Honorary degree recipients

Featured speakers who will address the graduating class: to be announced in March.

Outdoor ceremony notice

Convocation ceremonies are held outdoors - dress according to the weather.

Convocation live stream

All ceremonies will be live streamed on YouTube at www.sfu.ca/convocation.

Transportation and parking

If you are driving to campus, we recommend that you park in the North parking lot. Parking will be free for participants in the academic procession for convocation ceremonies.

Note: heavy traffic and limited parking are anticipated. Please allow for extra travel time and choose alternative transportation when possible. 

Event photography/videography
