We are pleased to share that Dr. Lilach Marom has published a new article in The Conversation Canada this week, titled: “How to improve university EDI policies so they address Jewish identity and antisemitism.”
Co-authored with Dr. Ania Switzer (UBC), this article examines how Jewish identity and antisemitism are often overlooked in Canadian universities’ equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) frameworks. Drawing on a content and discourse analysis of EDI policies and Canada Research Chair documents from 28 Canadian universities, the authors identify three key patterns that reveal significant gaps in how Jewish identity is understood and addressed.
As the authors write, “In a time of polarization and disinformation, universities must model how to hold space for complexity and foster real inclusion.” This article invites us to reflect on institutional responsibility and the need to thoughtfully expand the scope of EDI in higher education.
