Aq Roof Renewal Project

Status: In construction
Project Location: AQ roof
Budget: $10M
Consultant: RDH
Construction Manager: ETRO

Expected Completion Date: Spring 2028

For several decades, the AQ’s roof has supported the departments and services located here and the SFU community who study, work and gather in one of the university’s most recognizable buildings. It has now reached the end of its service life and will be fully replaced.

The project will be delivered in three phases over two years to reduce disruption and allow continued use of the building with construction anticipated to be completed in Spring 2028.

Features:

  • Improved thermal performance and indoor comfort, reducing heat gains in summer months and heat loss in winter months
  • Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through increased thermal performance
  • Improved safety through upgrades that address existing roof conditions

  • Phased construction, meaning work will move across different areas of the AQ over time rather than happening all at once
  • Ongoing coordination to minimize impacts during exams and major campus events
