Linguistics Department Writing Centre
Welcome to the Linguistics Department Writing Centre (LDWC). We offer one-on-one consultations for academic writing with a linguistic twist.
You don't have to be a Linguistics or Cognitive Science program student to visit us! As long as you are enrolled in a Linguistics or Cognitive Science course, we are happy to offer feedback and guidance on your writing assignments for those particular courses.
Please book an appointment to discuss any aspect of the writing process. This includes planning, discussing your thesis, argumentation, paper and paragraph structure, punctuation, and grammar.
The tutors at the LDWC are passionate and savvy individuals who would love nothing more than to help you continually revise and improve your writing. We hope to see your face at least a few times a semester!

How to Book Online Appointments
1. Sign up for an appointment slot
Visit our Google Drive and open the LDWC appointment spreadsheet. Available appointments are highlighted in yellow AND have no other names in them.
Add your name, and course number. For example, you might type "Hazel Bliss; LING 282W" in the slot.
By default, appointments will be conducted via Zoom. If you are not able to attend a Zoom videoconference, the tutors can instead provide feedback via email. In such cases, please type “email” along with your name and course number in your appointment slot
2. Upload your draft at least 24 hours in advance.
Please upload your draft to the Google Drive of your appointment. If your draft is not uploaded 24 hours in advance, your appointment will automatically be canceled. Make sure that your draft is uploaded in the main directory (not in the "Done" folder).
Please include a cover memo with your email address and specific questions that you want the tutors to address and/or the section(s) the tutors should focus on.
Be sure your file is named as follows:
For example: "Bliss-Hazel-LING282W-Mar23"
We can only accept and read files that are uploaded as a PDF, DOC, or DOCX.
