Q&A with Jerold
Why you are proud to be a part of an SFU extra curricular activity?
I'm proud to be part of such a strong student community that gives so much of their time and effort to make things happen. Whether it's the members of the student union, musicians in the concert orchestra, or science educators in the science outreach program, every group I was part of was filled with bright, dedicated people.
How did you help improve the lives of your fellow EVSC students?
Since my first semester in the fall of 2012, I was an active member of the Environmental Science Student Union, where I served as Webmaster, Council Representative, Secretary, and finally, President. Over the years, I helped put together social events, career nights, faculty meetings, and much more. During my last semester as President, I created a biweekly newsletter to share relevant events with EVSC students, and I also organized Wilderness First Aid training between four clubs and student unions. I also served on the program's steering committee, where I provided a student perspective for curricular planning.
Did you receive a significant award or honor?
In 2015, I was the recipient of the Ron MacLeod Scholarship in Environmental Science as well as the Enid Harris Scholarship in Environmental Science. I was also awarded a One World Scholarship towards my exchange semester in London, England.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I am moving out east to work as an Air Quality Scientist with an environmental consulting company in the Greater Toronto Area. I'm excited for the opportunity to apply my studies and to work with industry and government partners for a brighter future.
