Sessional - BISC 316 - Lectures - Vertebrate Biology - 1257 - Burnaby Campus

The following Sessional appointment is expected to be available in the Department of Biological Sciences during the FALL SEMESTER  (November 27 – December 22, 2025).

BISC 316 VERTEBRATE BIOLOGY - LECTURER 
SALARY  $3,424.00(inclusive of 4% vacation pay)

RESERVE SESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR POSITION: No
Article XIV E.3.a of the TSSU-SFU Collective Agreement allows for up to 25% of appointments within a given department to be reserved for graduate students or postdoctoral fellows. “While priority will be given to Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows in awarding this RESERVED position, all Sessional Instructors are encouraged to apply. In the event it is not filled by a Grad or Postdoc, it will be filled by another qualified applicant in accordance with Article XIV E of the Collective Agreement.”

Course Description: An overview of the evolution and diversity of vertebrates, with an emphasis on the evolutionary innovations and characteristics that led to this diversity. Labs explore comparative anatomy through dissections, bones, and other specimens. 

The Lecturer is responsible for the lecture portion of the course including delivering in-person lectures, coordinating any lecture related assignments, preparing and invigilating lecture exams, grading lecture exams and assignments with the help of TA(s), and submitting course grades. The Lecturer provides TA training for lectures, is available for office hours, and coordinates with the Lab Instructor on integration of the course components.  

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Biology or a related discipline, with a broad training in the biological sciences, and experience teaching Vertebrate Biology lectures in the last 2 years.

Recommended Qualifications: A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Biology or related discipline, with a concentration in anatomy and/ or organ-level physiology. Expertise in comparative anatomy of multiple vertebrate taxa, Experience teaching Vertebrate Biology lectures in the last 2 years.
