Instructor named as B.C.’s new human rights commissioner

June 06, 2019

Congratulations to Kasari Govender, an instructor in our Non-Profit Management Certificate program, who has been named B.C.’s human rights commissioner.

As a practising lawyer, Kasari has had extensive experience in constitutional and Aboriginal law. For more than 10 years she has served as the executive director of West Coast LEAF (Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund), a non-profit that uses the law to advance gender equality. Through her work she has frequently been consulted by local and national media on issues of equality and human rights.

B.C. has been without a human rights commission since 2002, making Kasari the first commissioner in this province in 17 years.
