John Hughes is a doctoral student in SFU's School of Communication. He began his PhD work in 2014, with a focus on ritual communication. He did his graduate work in Louisiana, producing a thesis on Hindu altars. He has worked as a general assignment reporter for the CBC and as an education reporter for NPR. John published his first book in 2012, entitled Nobody Rides for Free: A Drifter in the Americas. Other interests include politics, mythology and playing football on weekends.
