If I was approved for the StrongerBC future skills grant in a previous year and have funds remaining, do I need to reapply?
Yes, you need to reapply for the grant each year even if you were previously approved. Applications do not carry over from year to year.
If I’m approved for the StrongerBC future skills grant, how long do I have to complete the program?
You need to complete the program within 52 weeks of your start date (the start date of your first course that’s funded by the grant).
If my program tuition is higher than my grant funding, when do I need to pay the balance?
If you’re approved for the grant, you will need to “spend” your entire grant amount up front. This means registering in enough courses to use the full amount and paying any remaining balance for those courses yourself.
For the Career Development Practitioner program, the full tuition is due to secure your seat in the program.
For all other eligible programs, after your initial registration (in enough courses to use your grant), you can pay the remaining tuition course-by-course as you register.
What happens if I need to withdraw from my program?
If you withdraw more than five business days before your program begins, your StrongerBC future skills grant can be refunded. Any additional payments can also be refunded, apart from the $99 application fee and an administration fee (20% up to $50 per course).
If you withdraw within five business days of your program starting, your grant and additional payment are non-refundable.
Will I be taxed on the StrongerBC future skills grant?
You will receive a T4A form from SFU for the grant funding, along with a T2202 for tuition paid. Please consult the Canada Revenue Agency for tax advice.
