Julie McManus is a senior project manager on the Green Infrastructure Implementation team at the City of Vancouver, where she leads the delivery of innovative projects that integrate nature into the urban environment. With over 12 years of experience in the design, construction and maintenance of green infrastructure across British Columbia and Ontario, Julie brings a deep understanding of how water, ecology and community intersect in resilient city design.

Throughout her career, Julie has collaborated with municipalities, schools and property owners to create wetlands, rain gardens, and bioretention systems that manage rainwater while restoring habitat and enhancing public spaces. Her approach combines technical expertise with an inclusive, community-based mindset—ensuring that projects not only perform ecologically but also inspire local stewardship.

Julie is also passionate about education and outreach. She has developed creative public engagement initiatives such as community science programs, life-sized board games, and the Seeding Stewardship campaign, all designed to help residents connect with and care for the living systems that support urban life.

As an instructor, Julie focuses on making learning practical, inclusive and fun. She enjoys sharing real-world lessons from the field and inspiring others to see green infrastructure as more than just engineering—it’s a way to build healthier, more resilient communities.
