Melanie Matining is first-generation Tagalog and a settler on unceded xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) land. Her work focuses on creating organizational systems change for social change. She works as HR strategist with Elevate Inclusion Strategies Consulting and RADIUS SFU to create foundations for equity, accessibility and inclusion in the workplace. 

In the past, Melanie has worked as an independent developer for curriculum design with youth and women’s organizations across Canada, focusing on topics regarding migrant justice, decolonization and youth empowerment. She has been an active force in local LGBTQ2+ event organizing, creating systems to nurture safer and accessible spaces with local venues and community organizations. She holds formal training in operations management through BCIT and has an academic background in gender theory and linguistics through University of Victoria. 

She currently sits as the co-chair for the Multiculturalism Council of BC and lends support as a board director and advisor for local organizations including Out on Screen and Groundswell. 

Melanie continues her work in advocating for accessible and inclusive spaces in the city. She walks every day in love and liberation alongside communities working towards queer rights, Indigenous solidarity and migrant justice.
