Kara Toews

Kara Toews completed her BA at the University of Alberta and her MA at the University of Toronto where she specialized in prose writing. She crafted her editorial skills through English and creative writing courses over the duration of her academic career. She also worked on her thesis novel with Giller Prize winner Michael Redhill.

Kara’s fiction has been published in UntetheredGlass BuffaloHalf a GrapefruitThe Danforth Review and elsewhere. She has received five academic literary awards including the 2019 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant. More recently, she has started her own editing company and has worked on a few novels, a children’s book and a collection of short stories. 

If Kara could bring back an author from the dead, it would be Truman Capote. They would sip on gin and tonics together, and she would tell him how she transforms caffeine into words.
