Stephen Ullstrom

Stephen Ullstrom is a three-time award-wining book indexer. He wrote his first index in 2011 while working in-house at Harbour Publishing and he now works as a full-time freelance indexer. Stephen works with both publishers and authors on trade and scholarly books, primarily in the humanities and social sciences. He is an active member of the Indexing Society of Canada/Société canadienne d’indexation and the American Society for Indexing.

Stephen is also the author of Book Indexing: A Step-by-Step Guide and the newsletter Indexing Matters. He believes in the value that an excellent index can add to a nonfiction book, and frequently follows his inner nerd to untangle what makes an index tick.
