SFU professor Jie Liang Elected as Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering

SFU professor Jie Liang from the School of Engineering Science has been elected as Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE). Liang and 53 other fellows have been selected for their distinguished achievements and outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada and around the world.

This prestigious award recognizes Liang’s significant accomplishment in image and video compression. His research has been applied to industrial products such as Microsoft Windows Media Video Player and Blu-ray Disc.

Liang joins five other researchers in the Faculty of Applied Sciences as Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. They include professors Majid Bahrami, Farid Golnaraghi, Jiangchuan Liu, Ash Parameswaran and Jian Pei.
