The volume brings together thirty-six contributions from experts on contemporary Egypt, each of whom examine key areas that include politics, economics, the legal system, the environment, and cultural expression.

The publisher states, “[the handbook] serves a dual purpose of introducing readers to Egypt’s history and contemporary political economy and as a comprehensive key resource for postgraduate students and academics interested in modern Egypt.”
