Gerardo Otero
Professor Emeritus
At Simon Fraser University, Otero was a Professor at the School for International Studies and an associated faculty member of the Labour Studies Program. In Fall 2024, Otero received the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences' Dean's Medal for Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence in research, teaching and service. In Vancouver, Otero is a founding member of the British Columbia Employment Standards Coalition.

Jorge Garcia
Professor Emeritus
Jorge Garcia was a charter SFU faculty from 1965 to 1998, and a founding member of the Latin American Studies Program at SFU. His academic interests are the social and political context in Latin American contemporary fiction and poetry. In 1970, Garcia received the prestigious “Marquez de Rivadeneira” prize from the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE) for best scholarly work. In 1976, he became a member of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). After retirement from SFU, he continued as Director of International Education at the Universities of Tulsa and Adelphi, and as Associate VP for International Affairs at Southern New Hampshire University.
