Overview
The Master of Speech and Language Pathology pathway is a partnership between Simon Fraser University (SFU), Burnaby, in Canada and the University of Canterbury (UC), Christchurch, in New Zealand. SFU recognized a gap between the increased demand for speech and language pathologists and the limited pathway options for students in British Columbia. The SFU–Canterbury Master of Speech and Language Pathology Pathway (SFU–UC MSLP) creates direct entry for SFU undergraduates to earn professional qualification and practice as a speech language pathologist/therapist upon graduation.
The SFU–UC MSLP is a two-year program. You will study the areas of clinical linguistics, evidence-based practice, introductory neuroscience, speech and language development and disorders across the lifespan, typical and atypical hearing, swallowing, fluency and voice, and professional practice. This hands-on program also includes experiential clinical practice and internship after graduation.
Admission Requirements
This opportunity is for current SFU students who meet the requirement of a CGPA of at least 3.0. Additionally, applicants must have completed a lower division statistics course and be enrolled in the Speech Science Linguistics Certificate. Students who fulfil these criteria will be invited to apply (after completing 90 units) at the discretion of UC MSLP.
Through this partnership, a limited number of seats are guaranteed for eligible SFU undergraduate students. Students who use this pathway are also eligible to receive a tuition fee reduction of 10% at UC.
The school year calendar in New Zealand begins in February. For students graduating in 2026, you may be eligible to apply for the February 2027 start date. Please get in touch with our Undergraduate Student Advisor. Application deadline for a February 2028 start date are due October 1, 2026.
