Welcome to Mohsen Javdani, associate professor

The SFU Urban Studies Program is pleased to welcome Mohsen Javdani as associate professor of economics in Urban Studies and in the School of Public Policy at Simon Fraser University. Prior to joining SFU, he was associate professor in the Department of Economics, Philosophy and Political Science at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus. Mohsen received his PhD from Simon Fraser University in 2012, and his Master’s degree from the University of British Columbia in 2006.

Mohsen’s research interests span applied econometrics, labour, immigration, gender and personal economics, and more recently the role of ideology in economics. His research and interest in multiple facets within economics are driven by his endless curiosity and drive to address important questions as these arise in society. In addition, intertwined throughout Mohsen’s work is the theme of researching and challenging the mechanisms and processes that hinder plurality and produce inequality, injustice, exclusion and marginalization. Some powerful recent work teases out the existence and effects of ideological bias within the way economists understand and address social problems, casting a dark shadow on the ability of economics to adequately address our major injustices today. 

In Urban Studies, Mohsen will teach Urban Inequality and be available to supervise research in urban economics.
