Look Around

The Look Around track focuses on creating change in one's environment—starting at the workplace. Hear speakers from all backgrounds share their experiences in implementing change against the norm.

Many hiring practices have implicit or explicit biases that can affect who gets hired. In this session, four speakers will each identify a bias that can show up in hiring, and share a concrete way you can reduce the impact of that bias on your hiring process. Q&A to follow.

Time and Date: 11:00 am–12:00 pm on Saturday, May 4
Session Type: Panel
Panelists: Soundous Ettayebi, Eleanor Huynh, Amyn Rajan, and Dr. Sheryl Staub-French (moderator)

When biases and assumptions emerge in a workplace environment, they may not be widely noticed and the "target" may not have the ability to directly address them. Allies play a crucial role in identifying and naming the behaviour, supporting the "target", and creating solutions. This panel showcases a number of allies and discusses how everyone can be an ally, regardless of their position in an organization.

Time and Date: 1:45–2:45 pm on Saturday, May 4
Session Type: Workshop
Facilitators: Jennifer Pelletier and Dr. Toni Schmader

Policies and practices are the bricks of an inclusive workplace, but the challenge of the actual construction is finding the right culture to cement it all together. This session includes presentations on emerging research and case studies from this field. The outcomes from Friday's Policy Forum will also be shared.
