Any unlisted supporting docuemnts can be uploaded under "Optional or Additional Documents".

  • Transcripts must be in English and/or French, or must be fully bilingual including one of these languages (all words and notations must be in French or English, in addition to any other language).

Electronic transcripts must be sent via a secure delivery service (such as Parchment) directly from the official institution to: gradap@sfu.ca

See more on GS website.

Sending References

After you have input your referee's emails, the system will automatically send a request to your referees for references. They should upload the reference by follwoing the instructions from the system generated email. If your referees face problems in submitting their references, you have a few options to send in the reference to us:

  1. Referees can use their free email, but when they send in your reference, they have to use a letterhead.
  2. Referees can email their reference letter to enscgpa@sfu.ca. The department can upload on behalf of your referee. Please note when sending in their reference letter this way, to include who they are, who is the applicant, and ensure the email they're using is the same email as the one on the application.
  3. Or alternatively, consider a different referee to be your reference

Application Process

Step 1

REVIEW THE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure you have met the SFU and School of Engineering Science admission requirements.

Step 2

IDENTIFY A SUPERVISOR (MASc and PhD only)

MASc and PhD graduate students are required to have identified a supervisor who has agreed to oversee the student’s research during their degree. You are not required to secure a supervisor before submitting your online application, but it is required for your admission. Please click here for a list of supervisors.

Step 3

SUBMIT YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION

Please submit your application using SFU’s online application system or goGrad. Note that MASc and PhD applicants must declare their research interests, while MEng applicants' research interests are for reference only. There are no concentration options for MEng program.

If you experience errors whens submitting your applciation or require technical support, please submit a ticket to Graduate Studies office.

Step 4

PAY YOUR NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE

We cannot access your online application until you submit your non-refundable application fee. You can upload supporting documentation once you have completed the this part of your application.

Step 5

SUBMIT YOUR SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

It is your responsibility to submit all supporting documents through the online system (refer to step 3), ensuring they are complete and legible. Complete the documents upload at least one week prior to the application deadline to avoid delays and ensure your references have time to submit their reports.  Your referees should have received a link to upload their references for you through the online system.

All the documents should be submitted and received by the School before the application period closes; this includes English test results and reference letters from referees. Applicants should contact us at enscgpa@sfu.ca if their English test results are expected to be delivered after applicantion deadline. Otherwise, the system will flag the English requirement as "not met". Two weeks after the application period has closed, applications with missing mandatory document(s) are considered incomplete. Both incomplete and late applications will not be reviewed by the admission committee.

If you have questions about sending your English test results, please refer to this page or submit a ticket to Graduate Studies office. Due to volume of applications received, we will not confirm receipt of documents. You can refer to the online system's document checklist to confirm your documents submission status, including the references and English test results.

Step 6

SUBMIT SEALED OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS TO SFU

You will be contacted if you are being recommended for admission by the School of Engineering Science. After you have received your offer of admission, you need to submit transcripts for any post-secondary institutions (except SFU) you have attended. Transcripts must be official documents, sealed, and sent directly to Simon Fraser University (physically or electronically) by the institution of issue. For physical transcripts, do not open the envelope — if you open it, it is no longer official.

More details and mailing addresses about submitting official transcripts can be found here.
