BPK Skating Social
- When: Friday February 10, 2023 6:00pm to 9:00pm
- Where: Kensington Complex - 6159 Curtis Street, Burnaby BC, V5B 4X7
- Admission: Where you pay for admission tell them you are there for the SFU Kinesiology skate. You MUST show your SFU student/staff ID in order for your admission/skate rental to be covered.
Helmets are required for children 12 and under. Children 7 years of age or younger MUST be accompanied on the ice by a person 16 years of age or older on skates.
SFU mini BIG Fair is back in-person!
The SFU spring career fair will have over 60 companies/organizations exhibiting on Feb 15 and Feb 16. at Burnaby Campus (AQ North near Images Theatre). You'll be able to discover opportunities, jobs, graduate school programs and volunteering positions to learn and apply your skills. This is open to all SFU students and alumni.

Annual Bertha Rosenstadt National Undergraduate Research Conference
The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto is hosting its annual undergraduate student in-person conference (with online options available) on March 31st, 2023. We would be grateful if you could circulate this event amongst your upper year undergraduate students and any professors who may be supervising an undergraduate student in research activities.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion International Mobility Award (EDI IMA)
Applications for the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion International Mobility Award (EDI IMA) are now open! This award is offered by SFU as part of the Global Skills Opportunity program and is funded by the Government of Canada’s Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program.
Awards will be given to multiple undergraduate students, valued at $1000 for virtual programs and from $1000 - $10,000 for in-person international learning opportunities, depending on program duration. A key feature of the award is that you can apply before or after being approved for one of the eligible international learning opportunities.
This award is open to students who meet the eligibility requirements below. Please see the EDI IMA website for full eligibility details. If you are eligible and interested in applying for the EDI IMA, the deadline is Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 11:59 PM (PT) for programs up to Summer 2024.
Award Values:
Virtual programs (1+ weeks): $1,000.00
Short term in-person programs* (1-4 weeks): $1,000.00- $3,000.00
Medium term in-person programs (5-16 weeks): up to $7,000.00
Long term in-person programs (17+ weeks): up to $10,000.00
*For short-term international learning opportunities, you must still be enrolled in a full-time course load to be eligible.
Undergraduate Research Opportunity in Dr. Guttman's Lab
Dr. Julian Guttman, a Cellular Microbiologist in the Department of Biological Sciences is looking for an undergraduate student to perform research in his lab.
The position will start at the beginning of the summer semester (May 2023). The student must be able to devote at least 8 months to the lab in the form of either a 498 or 499 course as well as an ISS (Independent Study Semester).

You should NOT participate in this study if one or more of the following applies:
- Your age is greater than 40 or less than 19 (or less than 18 for an SFU student)
- You have any known visual disorder other than one that can be corrected with lenses
- You have a musculoskeletal (e.g., arthritis) or neurological (e.g., stroke, Parkinson’s disease) disorder that affects your movement or balance
- You are allergic to rubbing alcohol or adhesive
- You have participated in a research experiment using prism glasses before
- You are not vaccinated against COVID19
Your decision on whether to participate will not influence your grades in any coursework or benefit you in terms of status or success in any class.

Wearable Sensor Reliability Study - Participant Recruitment
We are looking for healthy participants aged 19 and older who are free of lower-extremity musculoskeletal injuries in the past 3 months to participate in a research study.
The goal of this study is to investigate the reliability of newly developed wearable sensors. In this study, you will be asked to complete several walking, running, and jumping trials to help us test some new wearable devices. Participation will require you to attend a baseline (testing-1), 1-week (testing-2) and 3-month session (tesing-3). The final decision about participation is yours and you can withdraw at any time.
Each session will take no longer than 2 hours.

Supine-to-stand versus Supine-to-Lower Body Negative Pressure (LBNP), Cardiovascular/Musculoskeletal Baroreflex Responses (#30001262)
We are looking for healthy, able-bodied participants aged 19-35 years to come to the Aerospace Physiology Laboratory (APL) to undergo supine-to-stand and supine-to-lower body negative pressure (LBNP) testing protocols.
Your participation in this study will involve…
- 1 lab visit (no longer than 1 hour) at SFU’s APL where you will be lying on your back and standing on a force platform.
- 1 lab visit (no longer than 1 hour) at SFU’s APL where you will be lying on your back inside a LBNP chamber from below the hips.
Both visits will be measuring heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle activity.
Your contribution helps us improve our understanding if LBNP accurately mimics heart and muscle responses that are seen with quiet standing after laying down.

Western’s Medical Innovation Fellowship (MIF) Program
The MIF is a 10.5-month program (August 2023 - June 2024, full-time) organized by WORLDiscoveries, Western’s Tech Transfer Office. The program immerses highly talented young scientists, clinicians, and engineers in training and research environments that build innovation leaders and inspire the creation of novel medical technologies, with the ultimate goal of creating a medical device start-up. During the MIF, you will:
- Join a network of clinicians, scientists, engineers, and others interested in commercialization of medical innovation
- Learn about key innovation and business concepts that can be used to address clinical problems
- Work together in a multidisciplinary team to address clinical problems with a design thinking-based approach

Neuromotion Physiotherapy Volunteer
Neuromotion Physiotherapy (Surrey location) is recruiting volunteers to help out in their physiotherapy clinic.
We are a neurological disorder specific clinic who strives to re-train functional movement through the clinical application of neuroscientific principles. Based on client-centered goals, we provide expert hands-on treatments, education, and exercises to enable the client to achieve their goals and maximize their physical potential.
What makes us unique is the community atmosphere, wherein staff, clients, and volunteers all work together to help the clients achieve their therapeutic goals. We provide many volunteer opportunities to eager individuals, many of whom are students looking to gain practical experience in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. We are almost always looking for volunteers to help out in the clinic or in the community (carrying out a safe home exercise program or simply providing companionship).
At Neuromotion we involve volunteers to help the clinic run as smoothly as possible. Our volunteers assist with set-up, tidiness, and are often a useful second pair of hands in treatment. They are always under supervision by a Neuromotion staff member.
We are specifically looking for volunteers to work on Tuesdays (morning and afternoon) Wednesdays (morning and afternoon) and Friday mornings
