First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery

Nicole E Marcia, MA, MC, RCC, C-IAYT (she/her), is a clinical counsellor, yoga therapist and educator who holds a master’s degree in yoga therapy from Lesley University and a master's degree in counselling from City University of Seattle. For nine years, she served as the director of therapeutic yoga programming for the Provincial Health Services Authority at their Burnaby Centre for Mental Health & Addictions and Riverview Psychiatric Hospital. From 2007 to 2018, she worked as a yoga therapist at Onsite, the treatment arm of North America’s first safe injection site in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.  

Nicole provided therapeutic yoga and mindfulness programming as a part of an interdisciplinary team to public safety personnel, first responders and military veterans diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder within Boreal Wellness’s 10-week Trauma Day Treatment Program. She has received her BCPFFA Silver Seal of Endorsement for completing Level 1 and 2 of the BC Professional Fire Fighters Association Occupational Awareness for Treating First Responder Trauma.
