In mid-life, Carol Tulpar completed her Master of Arts in liberal studies at SFU. As a young woman, she earned her bachelor’s in English literature at UBC. After teaching high school ESL, she moved to Vancouver Community College to teach academic prep courses to adults. There, she enjoyed a long career working with highly educated non-native speakers from around the world. While serving as assistant, then as department head of College Preparatory English, she also worked on B.C.’s Provincial Articulation of ESL courses.
Carol reads voraciously and takes a particular interest in fiction by authors with roots in other cultures. A writer herself, she completed the Writer’s Studio in 2011 and is currently in the process of preparing her first novel for publication. In her blog, Essay-eh (launched 2009), she comments regularly on books and other matters. For the past five years, Carol has been a mentor for the Southbank Writer's program at SFU Surrey.
