With her bachelor of arts in English literature (UBC), Carol Tulpar taught ESL to high school students before teaching adults at Vancouver Community College. There she enjoyed working with highly educated non-native speakers from around the world while simultaneously completing her mid-career master of arts in liberal studies at SFU. She also served as a writing mentor for the six-year duration of SFU Surrey’s Southbank Writer's program, part of the Creative Writing Program at SFU Continuing Studies.
Carol reads voraciously, focusing on fiction by authors with roots in other cultures. She completed the Writer’s Studio program in 2011 and is in the final stages of preparing her first novel—a work of historical fiction—for publication. In her blog, Essay-eh (launched 2009), she comments on books and other matters.
