VPR Conference Travel Grants

Please be advised that with the evolving global situation involving COVID-19, that SFU will be suspending its Travel Grants Program. We will send out an additional notification once the situation changes.

VPR Research Travel Grants are provided for faculty in areas supported by SSHRC to attend North American (max. $900) and international (max. $2,000) conferences to present a paper (including poster presentation).

Pool 1: Applications for conferences taking place between April 1, 2020 - August 31, annually.

Pool 2: Applications for conferences taking place between September 1 to March 31, annually. 

  • Draft completed by 1 week prior to the submission to ORS
  • April 1- August 31 or until the funding exhausts
  • September 1 - March 31 or until the funding exhausts

SSHRC Small Grant

SSHRC Small Research Grants support scholarly research in the contemporary arts, humanities and social sciences for expenses up to a maximum of $7,000. A lead applicant, together with one or more eligible co-investigators may apply in a single application for up to a maximum of $10,000. There are spring and fall annual applications intakes.

SSHRC Insight Development Grants

Support research in its initial stages; enables the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas; $7,000 and $75,000, 1-2 years. Uses the Research Portal & SSHRC CCV.

SSHRC Insight Grants

Support research excellence in the Social Sciences &Humanities; $70,000 - $100,000 or $100,000 - $400,000 for 2-5 years. Uses the SSHRC Web Platform & SSHRC CV system.

SSHRC Connection Grants

Four annual competitions; knowledge mobilization funding; require cash/in-kind from partners/sponsors.

SSHRC Partnership Development Grants

Foster new research and/or related activities with new or existing partners; design and test new partnership approaches for research and/or related activities; $75,000 to $200,000 over 1-3 years.

SSHRC Partnership Grant
