Core University English Immersion Experience

Student Learning Commons in collaboration with the Centre for English Language Learning, Teaching and Research (CELLTR) presents Core University English. This one week course helps English as a second or an additional language students gain confidence in the kind of academic English language skills needed for success at SFU.  Tim Mossman, English as an Additional Language (EAL) Services Coordinator in the Student Learning Commons and EAL Peer Educators, will facilitate these small group session.

Over five days (22 hours of instruction), this course will cover:

  • understanding and producing spoken and written academic texts
  • expressing academic ideas and concepts clearly and in a well-structured manner
  • searching for and using academic sources of information, both in writing and speaking.

Core University English is designed for international students, "Generation 1.5" students (who immigrated to Canada during their teen or pre-teen years), and recent immigrants to Canada. Classes will be held on the SFU Burnaby campus, August 31st to September 4th, 2015.

  • Registration information
    The registration fee of $40 CAN includes a textbook and a welcome breakfast on the first day of class.  Payment is to be made in person in cash at the Student Learning Commons, Room 3020, Bennett Library, between 10:00am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday.
