Graduate Facilitators in the Student Learning Commons

In April we were able to reach an expedited settlement with TSSU which resulted in changes to non-monetary articles in the CA and a 2% GWI in each of the 3 years of the agreement.  However, bargaining continued for Graduate Facilitators in the Student Learning Commons, who were certified into TSSU in June 2019.  When a group of employees joins a Union, the employer and the Union must negotiate new language for that group, as well as agreeing which of the existing articles will apply to the new group.  After a collaborative and productive round of bargaining, an agreement was reached on November 23rd, 2020 and subsequently ratified by the TSSU membership.

The new TSSU collective agreement is being drafted and will be distributed in the New Year.

Research Assistants

Following the theme of unionizing new groups, the Research Personnel Initiative team have transitioned nearly 450 individuals to SFU employees, and many of those will be eligible for TSSU membership under the terms of the voluntary recognition agreement signed in November 2019.

Working with a diverse team of faculty, administrators and labour relations advisors, we are preparing to negotiate the terms and conditions for RAs who will be TSSU members.  We will bring you regular updates on our progress over the coming months.

Resources for Managers

As part of the Human Resources LEAN project, we are working on converting our interpretation and guidance resources to a digital format.  A new area of the Labour Relations website will offer those resources to our administrators and managers to keep everyone up to date with developments in all of our employee groups.  A link will be available in the New Year.
