Joe Feddersen is a prominent and prolific contemporary artist (1), and professor of visual arts at the Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington. He was born in Omak, Washington and is of Colville and Okanagan descent (2).  

In 1983 Feddersen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington and awarded a Masters of Fine Arts degree by the University of Wisconsin in 1989 (3). He draws inspiration for his work from the forms and patterns of traditional Colville basketry and textiles incorporating modern landscape motifs while using a variety of contemporary materials. Solo exhibitions of his work have been featured at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Willamette University’s Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Salem, Oregon, and the George Gustav Heye Center in New York, New York (4).
