BPK 343 Enrollment Information
If you plan to enroll in BPK 343 for Fall, please apply for your criminal records check now. (If you have done one in the past, it is valid for 5 years unless there is a break in your studies at SFU)
Before students can enroll in BPK 343, they need to have completed a Criminal Records Check. By law, SFU cannot accept CRC's done through other agencies including the RCMP. Students with criminal record checks conducted through agencies other than the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General are still expected to fulfill this requirement. Further, the process for a Criminal Record Check must be undertaken by SFU only.

The BPK Advisor cannot enter a waiver as this would be overriding the mandatory SFU requirement/procedure, and this would be a liability issue.

MSc or PhD in Exercise Physiology
Are you interested in pursuing an MSc or PhD in exercise physiology at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul’s Hospital?
The Cardiopulmonary Exercise Physiology (CPEP) Laboratory is recruiting new students interested in pursuing graduate studies in human exercise physiology. The CPEP laboratory is located within the world renowned UBC Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul’s Hospital. The lab studies the physiological mechanisms and management of exercise limitation and breathlessness across the full spectrum of health and fitness, including elite athletes to those suffering from chronic cardiorespiratory diseases. Students will work under the mentorship of Dr. Jordan Guenette and will collaborate with physicians, scientists, and graduate students from multiple institutions around the world. FSL Bursary Program Eligibility:
As a first-year student, you would be eligible if
- you are a Canadian citizen or have permanent residency
- English is your first official language spoken
- you are studying full-time for the academic year, both Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 terms
- over the two terms, an average of 50% of your courses and related activities are in French
- you enroll in an undergraduate program option taught in French (which could be in addition to your program of admission)

The Bursaries for Postsecondary Studies in French as a Second Language Program (FSL Bursary Program), administered by the Association des collèges et université de la francophonie canadienne (ACUFC), is designed to encourage English-speaking students to pursue post-secondary studies in French. Fall 2021 Semester by the Salish Sea
Are you interested in learning about the ecology, history, and political realities of living in a coastal city on the edge of the Salish Sea?
Semester by the Salish Sea is a full-time, W-designated, 15-credit semester (DIAL 390W, DIAL 391W, & DIAL 392W). It is perfect for students looking for an exciting multidisciplinary experience where they will form connections with their peers and industry professionals while exploring a wide range of issues connected to blue urbanism, sea level rise, coastal development and ocean life.
The semester will be an immersive, team learning environment combining interdisciplinary skills with the complexity of collaborating within a group setting. The course combines the processes of dialogue and human-centered design. Students will engage with communities and research existing issues in order to design projects to improve the world around them. Students are encouraged to bring an open mind about project scope to the program.

Students will cultivate the skills necessary to conduct dialogues, public presentations, and multi-stakeholder discussions. The course offers facilitation and dialogue experience, field trips, reflective writing, on-the-ground training, leadership development, group process, and project management skills.
The course will be taught by Professor of Professional Practice Janet Moore, interdisciplinary designer, facilitator and educator Sarah Hay, and Decolonization and Urban Indigenous Planning Fellow Ginger Gosnell-Myers. It will take place at SFU Harbor Centre Campus Monday thru Friday 9:30-3:30. Boots for walking along the ocean shore required.

CMNS 362 - Study on Fitness and Health YouTubers and the Parasocial interactions
We are a group of research students in CMNS 362: Evaluative Methods For Applied Communication Research. As part of our coursework, we are conducting research on uncovering whether fitness and health audiences of YouTube experience parasocial interaction and to what extent. If the parasocial interaction is present, we aim to discover if it may influence body image and social anxiety. Moreover, the potential effects of parasocial interaction with exercise motivation during COVID-19 will be explored.

Confidentiality: Participation in this study is voluntary. You may decline to answer any questions you wish, and you may withdraw from participation at any time. To maintain security, our group members will only have access to the data collected, and it will be stored on a privately locked google drive. In addition, backup flies of our data will be stored on our computers with access only permitted for researchers. The disposal of our study will occur in August 2023.

Student Volunteer Opportunity
My name is Olga Kaamkarova. I am a semi-quadriplegic person and I am looking for Students from the Kinesiology Department to Volunteer for me in order to help me to carry on a set of exercises and stretches. I had in the past various Volunteers from the Kinesiology Department at SFU and their help has been very valuable to me. They also reported to me of having benefited from this experience. In most cases, when required, I have given them a Reference Letter for their own application purposes.
The tasks with me will be clearly defined and simple to execute. I will train a volunteer for one hour session in my home (near Kingsway and Joyce). They just have to follow instructions.
Right now I need volunteers for 1 hour session once a week
