Summary
This interactive online series will address common technical and teaching-related challenges to provide just-in-time support to instructors new to Canvas. You can register for a specific session or join us for the entire series!
Description
This series introduces a range of Canvas-related topics. A 30-minute presentation will be followed by a Q & A session with CEE technical specialists. Each session involves hands-on interaction so have your computer and your questions ready! Future sessions can be tailored to participant demand, so let your facilitators know which topics you'd like to explore.

Introduction to Teaching with Canvas
Description
New or returning to Canvas? In this introductory workshop you will learn how to create your own Canvas shell, set up modules, create your home page, upload files and graphics, and embed media. You will also be introduced to some of the CEE Canvas templates.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
- Create a Canvas shell
- Apply the various features of Canvas including modules, customized homepage, graphics and embedding media to enhance the overall organization and engagement of your course

Using the Assignment Tool to Create Assignments
Description
Providing diverse assignment submission types helps foster inclusion. Learn about different assignment types (file upload, no submission, text entry, peer review, group assignments) as well as how to add different points, weights or dates to your assignments.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
- Explore the various assignment types available in Canvas
- Acquire the skills to create assignments in Canvas
- Apply the strategies to accommodate different learning preferences

Timesaving Tools for Marking in Canvas
Description
Learn how to use the Canvas rubric, speedgrader and comment tools to more efficiently grade assignments and provide timely feedback to students.

- Apply canvas grading tools to provide constructive and timely feedback

Using Discussions and Groups in Canvas to Enhance Student Engagement

Canvas group and discussion tools can help students connect with the course material and each other. Learn how to use the different discussion tools to promote active participation.

- Identify strategies to create and manage discussions to promote student engagement
- Create, organize and assign students to groups

Exams and Quizzes in Canvas
Description
Learn how to create and grade quizzes and exams in Canvas using the Quiz tool. You will gain knowledge about the various question types available and explore different testing options to maintain security while accommodating students who may need extra time to complete the assessment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
- Create quizzes in Canvas using the Quiz tool
- Identify the features such as question banks, randomize quiz questions, time limits, availability dates and provide accommodations for students who require extra time and enabling additional attempts
- Construct different question types (e.g., multiple-choice, essay, matching)

SFU Supported External Tools
Description
Join us for an engaging workshop where we will explore a variety SFU supported external tools designed to enhance your teaching and assessment methods. In this session, we will showcase the features and functionalities of Turnitin, Crowdmark, H5P, Mediasite, CEE Poll, and Webwork.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
- Explore the features of Turnitin, Crowdmark, H5P, Mediasite, CEE Poll, and Webwork
- Examine best practices and examples of how these tools can be implemented to improve student learning experience
