Curriculum and Instruction Consultation

Consultations

Have a teaching goal, idea, or question? We are available to meet in-person or virtually for teaching and learning consultations. Consultations are individualized to your specific needs and are available for individual faculty, postdoctoral fellows, sessional instructors, and graduate students as well as departments, faculties, and other academic units. We consult on a range of instructional topics including:

  • Assessment and design of activities, courses and programs;
  • How to improve and document your teaching;
  • And how to make your teaching practice more accessible and inclusive.

Regardless of what modality you are teaching in or where you are at in your teaching career, we encourage you to connect with our teams of educational developers.

Teaching Observations

Want feedback on your classroom teaching? We offer teaching observations for SFU instructors interested in engaging in a formative discussion of their teaching practice.

The observations are done in three phases by experienced Educational Developers and include:

  1. a pre-observation meeting
  2. the classroom observation
  3. a post-observation debrief

The Centre for Educational Excellence is not able to conduct observations on behalf of other SFU entities, such as tenure and promotion committees, and cannot provide letters documenting an instructor’s teaching. We are happy to offer consultation to departments on how to implement effective, mentoring approaches to peer observation of teaching as part of tenure review.

Personalized Voice Coaching

Want to revitalize your lectures and presentations? We are one of the only centres in Canada to offer personalized voice coaching. This coaching can enhance your presentation and lecturing skills by harnessing the power of breath, gestures, pauses, posture and speech.
